Promoting Holistic Well-being and Professional Growth

1. Purpose of the Policy

The college is committed to supporting the academic success, emotional well-being, and professional development of all students through a well-structured Mentoring and Counselling System. This policy aims to:

  • Foster a positive learning environment.
  • Identify and address academic, psychological, emotional, social, and professional challenges faced by students.
  • Strengthen the dignity of the teaching profession through guidance and care.

2. Structure of the Mentoring & Counselling System

A. Chief Mentor / Coordinator
  • Senior faculty supervising, monitoring, and coordinating all mentoring activities.
  • Plans, evaluates, and reports on effectiveness of the system.
B. Counsellor / Psychologist
  • Professional psychologist or trained counsellor appointed by the college.
  • Provides confidential counselling, therapy, and guidance.
  • Follows ethical standards of counselling practice.
C. Faculty Mentors
  • Assigned to each student (class/group-wise).
  • Provide academic guidance, personal support, and career advice.
  • Maintain a mentoring record for each student.

3. Scope of Mentoring & Counselling

  • Academic Support: study habits, classroom performance, time management, goal setting.
  • Professional Development: teaching practice guidance, career readiness, ethics of the teaching profession.
  • Emotional & Psychological Support: stress, anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflicts.
  • Social Concerns: peer pressure, family matters, social stigma.
  • Behavioral Issues: substance abuse, discipline, anti-ragging, anti-dowry attitudes.

4. Procedure and Implementation

  1. Induction & Orientation: students are informed about mentors and services during induction.
  2. Mentor-Student Meetings: one-on-one meetings at least once per month; records maintained.
  3. Referral to Counsellor: serious cases referred for confidential counselling.
  4. Feedback & Monitoring: Chief Mentor reviews activities and collects student feedback.

5. Confidentiality and Ethical Standards

  • All interactions and records are handled with strict confidentiality.
  • Ethical guidelines prescribed by counselling bodies and University norms are followed.
  • No discrimination based on gender, caste, religion, or background.

6. Expected Outcomes

  • Enhanced academic performance and student confidence.
  • Early intervention in academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
  • Positive attitudes toward teaching, professional ethics, and social responsibility.
  • Strengthened teacher-student relationships.
